I love Koi Ponds!

I love Koi Ponds. Every house I've ever lived in, had one. It's a passion. I can sit for hours just staring into the water, looking at the fish carefully floating into the open from their hiding places. And nothing quite compares to the sense of achievement when your Koi produce young, and you can watch them grow.

And it's more than just the actual pond. It's the effect it has on your whole garden. It provides a focul point and creates a sense of calm and tranquility. And you don't have to have a big garden to have a pond.

What I really like about a pond, is how it is much less maintenance than a fish tank. No constant cleaning. No constant feeding. Once your pond has become established, it becomes a self sustaining environment. The most important maintenance task is to install a pump with a decent filter to make sure there is a constant flow of water, providing oxygen and making sure the water doesn't get stale and starts to go bad.

I'm currently installing a new pond at home. This time round I have gone with the option of installing a pre-cast fibre-glass pond. It's still a work in progress, and I will be sharing with you in the weeks to come, all the lessons I have learned from doing it myself. I'm by no means a handy man. And that's what makes owning a pond so great. You don't have to be a handy man (or woman) to be able to build your own.

I will be sharing with you everything from the actual pond, attachments needed (Like pumps, etc) and even beautifying your pond with water features and plants. Of course, I will not be forgetting the most important part. The actual Koi!

As I stated when I started this post, I'm passionate about Koi Ponds. I hope that I can affect you with even a small bit of that passion, so that before you know it, you are out in the garden, building something that gives you a great sense of achievement.
